We initially developed our own Abandoned Cart module back in 2019 after researching and testing various that were available. From our tests the modules lacked certain features or didn’t work how our clients would want the module to, and also how we expect the module to work.
The first version of the website was developed and installed on a number of our clients websites, generating them additional revenue that would have been lost without the module.
As the OpenCart platform has progressed and new versions launched we finally switched to using the latest most stable version of 3.0 in 2022 for our ecommerce web design projects, with the new version also included a new code structure which meant our bespoke abandoned cart module would no longer work with any new website that we built.
So, as we continue to provide OpenCart Upgrades to new and existing clients and provide ecommerce websites to new clients we set about upgrading our abandoned cart module to work with the newer version of OpenCart. The upgraded version was a good opportunity to simplify, streamline and improve the module to benefit our own clients and a wider audience.
Included in the upgrade of the module are the following features:
- Updated to work with OpenCart version 3.x
- Redesigned user interface
- Ability to view cart items and details from within the module
- Improved statistics showing month on month trends
- Improved email generation using customisable email subject, store details all from within OpenCart
What is an abandoned cart?
You may be reading this and thinking “what on earth is an abandoned cart”, the term does conjure up various pictures, but for an ecommerce order to be classed as an abandoned cart the customer needs to have completed their personal details and selected a product, the customer then decides not to proceed with the order for an unknown reason, quite commonly due to delivery costs and this generates an abandoned cart that our system can work with.
Our abandoned cart system helps to recover lost sales by incentivising the customer to restore their shopping cart with an incentive; for example a monetary discount, all data is then reported and counts towards statistics.
How does it work?
We will work with you to install the module onto your OpenCart 3.x website, our abandoned cart module has been designed and built to integrate seamlessly into the admin panel of your website. Once the module is installed we will customise the email content and logo to match your main website and branding, setup an incentive of either a percentage or fixed amount and run some tests to get you up and running in no time.
Once these steps have been completed we will schedule a time for the module to run and send automated reminder emails to customers. This is an active project so we will be making improvements and upgrades to the module as requests are received or updates are required.
What other features are included in this module?
We have ensured the module is feature packed and we plan on adding new features and upgrades, but for now our module includes the following:
- Increase conversion rate and reduce cart abandonment
- Send differing coupon codes for cart restoration
- Email notifications with order details sent to customers
- Detailed statistics with easy to read graphs
- Location data included
- Offer free shipping
- Track conversions
- Track email opens
- Customisable email template
- Full installation and support
- Regular software updates
