Since eckhoMedia launched back in 2009 we have worked with a range of clients from small start-ups, medium and large companies to charities and not for profit organisations from our main office in Bristol to provide web design in Bristol.
During 2016 we moved into office space located within Spike Design business incubation space, this great facility is designed for creative businesses to further develop and expand their network of contacts and grow their businesses, since starting here eckhoMedia has done just that.
We provide web design not just for Bristol but within its suburbs, one of those being Spike Island, where our main offices are based, this great location is just a stone throw from the historic Bristol harbour, the SS Great Britain, the M Shed and many more interesting and historic features that makes Bristol the great city that it is today.
The area known as Spike Island comprises a strip of land between the iconic floating harbour and the tidal new cut of the River Avon located south of the floating harbour. Spike Island was created by William Jessop during the 19th century when the New Cut was built to form the floating harbour, allowing ships and boats to stay afloat when the tide went out, preventing them from sitting on the mud at the bottom.
In years gone past Spike Island was the site of working quays, shipyards, warehouses and various other shipping industries. The harbour railway runs the length of the island and provided a rail connection to all the businesses and industries located there with a main connection to the main rail network.
History of our offices at Spike Island
The Spike Design complex was once a tea packing factory for Brooke Bond and has been converted into a contemporary art space with over 70 artist studios and various creative businesses in the Spike Design business incubator space.
When the shipping industry in the docks declined Spike Island was a popular area for developers looking to build dock side housing and retail developments. The area now is a popular tourist and visitor attraction of cultural venues and museums with many buildings converted into office space to house small businesses.
Since moving our main offices to Spike Island we have provided web design and web hosting services to clients living on Spike Island and the neighbouring suburbs just across the river, it’s a great place to work being near the heart of Bristol and surrounded by so much creativity.
